Ford Reveals “Fathom,” Its New Electric Truck With a $29,945 Price Tag
Ford is preparing a new electric pickup called the “Fathom,” with a planned starting price of $29,945 after destination. The truck has drawn attention because Ford is pairing its EV technology with a new manufacturing approach designed to reduce production time and costs.
The company expects the Fathom to reach customers in 2027, although several details remain subject to change.
Ford considered several familiar names before settling on “Fathom.” Among the options were “Ranchero,” a reference to Ford’s historic American ute, along with “Galaxie” and “Taurus.”
The name “Fathom” has several meanings. As a verb, it can mean measuring depth or reaching a complete understanding of something. The word also once described the distance between a person’s outstretched hands. Sailors later used that measurement to estimate water depth.
Ford connected the name to the truck’s development process, saying the project began with years of studying what a specific group of customers needed from a pickup.
A $29,945 Starting Price

Instagram | hypepakistanauto | Ford’s upcoming “Fathom” electric truck uses innovative manufacturing to slash EV production costs.
The planned $29,945 price includes the destination charge, putting the Fathom below many electric pickups currently available in the United States. Still, the figure should not be treated as a final guarantee.
Vehicle pricing can change before production begins because of material costs, battery expenses, supply conditions, equipment levels, and market changes. Ford has also experienced price adjustments with the F-150 Lightning, showing how difficult it can be to predict an EV’s final price well ahead of launch.
The Fathom’s planned price is tied closely to Ford’s new production strategy. The company has described the manufacturing approach as a potential “Model T moment,” referring to the way major production changes can affect vehicle costs.
What the Fathom Will Offer
Ford has confirmed several equipment details. Every Fathom is expected to include the hardware needed for BlueCruise, Ford’s hands-free driver-assistance system. The truck will also support bi-directional charging, allowing energy to move between the vehicle and compatible equipment.
The Fathom is also expected to provide more passenger space than a Toyota RAV4 while adding both a pickup bed and a front trunk, commonly known as a frunk.
Ford describes the vehicle as a midsize pickup. Its proportions, however, have appeared relatively compact in early images. That classification will become easier to judge once Ford releases complete dimensions and specifications.
Production and Pre-Orders

Instagram | evcom | Built at Ford’s Louisville plant in Kentucky, Ford Fathom pre-orders kick off in early 2027.
Pre-orders for the Ford Fathom are scheduled to open in early 2027. Production will take place at Ford’s Louisville Assembly Plant in Kentucky.
The truck will use Ford’s Universal EV Production System, a manufacturing system designed to simplify and speed up vehicle assembly. Ford says the process could allow workers to complete Fathoms about 40% faster than other vehicles currently produced at the plant.
Ford still needs to reveal several important specifications. These include the final price, driving range, battery size, charging details, dimensions, and trim levels.
Those details will help determine where the “Fathom” fits among electric pickups in the U.S. market. For now, Ford has confirmed the name, planned price, key technology, production site, and expected pre-order timing.
The “Fathom” marks a new direction for Ford’s electric truck plans. Its $29,945 target price and faster production method set clear goals for the project.
Ford still has time to refine the truck before pre-orders begin in 2027. The final specifications and price will show whether the Fathom can deliver on its low-cost production strategy.
